Josh Hazlewood will miss ODI series against England due to virus

Australian pace bowler Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second One-Day International (ODI) against England on Friday (January 19) due to an illness. The 27-year-old was rested from game one after a gruelling Ashes campaign, where he played all five Tests and claimed 21 wickets. Hazlewood was set to replace fellow Ashes hero Pat Cummins for the Gabba clash but has been struck down by a virus and flown back home to Sydney to recuperate.

Selectors have resisted recalling Cummins meaning 21-year-old Jhye Richardson will make his ODI debut. The West Australian quick has a slender build but can bowl at express speeds nudging 150 kmph. He has only played eight List A matches but made his international debut last summer against Sri Lanka in the Twenty20 format.

Spearhead Mitchell Starc will be the only frontline bowler from Australia's famed Test attack in action in game two. Tim Paine, Australia's wicketkeeper, missed training on Wednesday with gastroenteritis but has been passed fit. After a five-wicket defeat in game one at the MCG, Australia will be aiming to rebound at their fortress of the Gabba and get back into the five-match series.
