Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 23 (NT): The Tamil Icon Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan put his views on Sterlite industry protest on Wednesday demanding that it must be shut.

Haasan addressed reporters outside the General Hospital in Thoothukudi, where he visited those who were injured in the clashes.

He said that we must know who ordered this firing adding the victims are demanding this. He further said merely announcing compensation isn't a solution, the industry must be shut.

However, the family of some victims criticized the Makkal Needhi Maiam boss’ visit to the hospital, claiming they were facing trouble during his arrival.

Security has been beefed up in Thoothukudi and Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) (prohibits assembly of more than 4 people in an area) has been imposed in the city after clashes turned aggressive on Tuesday, claiming at least 11 persons  live while over 65 injured.

Till the time 42 people have been admitted to the hospital and few have been transferred to the Tirunelveli medical college to trim down overcrowding.

"42 people have been admitted to our hospital till now, few transferred to Tirunelveli medical college to reduce congestion. 10 bodies are in the mortuary here. 17 surgeries have been done," informed Tamil Nadu Director of Medical Education, Dr A Edwin Joe as quoted by ANI.
