Actor Kamal Haasan officially turned into a politician after the launch of his political party on Wednesday. The actor-turned-politician launched his political party at a rally in Madurai after visiting former President late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s brother and family at his residence in Rameswaram. He said that he is no longer an actor but a lamp in people’s home.

“Like the lamp in your homes you should protect me,” he added.

He had scheduled to visit Kalam’s school later in the day before addressing a public rally at Madurai which was cancelled as district authorities did not grant the permission. A day before, a leader from a Hindu organization raised objections over the planned visit terming it as a political gimmick.

The actor posted a tweet related to his party’s launch. It read, “Greatness can come from simple beginnings. Actually it will come only from simplicity. Glad to start my journey from a great man’s simple adobe.”

Haasan also visited Paramakudi, his birthplace, where he was gathered by a crowd of 2000 people. Fans were seen crazy to click selfies with the actor. Locals are hopeful that Kamal Haasan will pay attention to his hometown and develop it after his entry into politics.

The actor will soon head to Madurai for announcing his party’s name, ideology and unveil the flag.
