New Delhi (India), May 18 (NT): Superem court ruled that  in next 28  hours BJP have  to  clear 'floor test '  in crucial hearing on Congress-JD(S) petition challenging Karnataka Governor's invitation to BJP forming govt.

The hering  began in Supreme Court today at 10.30 AM Supreme Court directed for floor test in Karnataka Assembly at 4 pm tomorrow,.

Supreme Court asked counsels for letters from BS Yeddyurappa then Mukul Rohatgi handed over two letters of the BJP to top Court.

Letters, handed to SC by BJP's lawyer Mukul Rohatgi,  which said that Yeddyurappa has been elected as leader of largest party adding that BJP and he has support of necessary number of MLAs  and is ready to prove it on floor of House.

Supreme Court, in his decision  ruled by Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri said, 'floor test seems to be the best option.'

The Apex Court observed that as BS Yeddyurappa has claimed support and BJP is single largest party, there could be two probabilities. whether Guv's decision has to be tested or a floor test has to be held on Saturday.

Supreme Court said, 'It is just a number game, one who enjoys the majority should be invited to form the Govt.'

 

 

 

Congress-JD(S) plea against #Karnataka Governor inviting BJP to form govt: Supreme Court wanted to know on what basis the Governor asks a party to provide a stable government. BJP's lawyer Mukul Rohatgi submitted that at this stage he does not want to say anything more.

Cong, JD(S) MLAs being shifted to Hyderabad hotel from K'taka

Hyderabad (India), May 18 (NT): Amid the huge fiasco Fearing defection to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and JD-S yesterday decided to shift their MLAs, lodged at Eagleton Resort in Bengaluru regarding the formation of Government in Karnataka, MLAs of both the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD-S) are being shifted to Park Hyatt Hotel in Hyderabad from Bengaluru Resort.

Congress MP from Karnataka, DK Suresh, said, "They (MLAs) are coming here, we are arranging everything here. We are waiting for them, in another two hours they will come, (JD-S) and Congress both."

Fearing defection to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and JD-S yesterday decided to shift their MLAs, lodged at Eagleton Resort in Bengaluru.

Kerala Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran earlier invited Congress and JD-S MLAs from Karnataka to their state to avoid alleged horse-trading and poaching bid by the BJP.

As the newly elected Chief Minister of Karnataka B. S. Yeddyurappa has 15-day to prove his majority on the floor of the assembly, the Congress and JD-S have been alleging that the BJP is trying to "poach" their MLAs.

The results of the Karnataka Assembly polls announced on May 15 showed that the BJP had won 104 seats, emerging as the single largest party, while the Congress and JD(S) bagged 78 and 38 seats, respectively.

In a turn of events, the JD-S and Congress forge a post-poll alliance and got the support of one Independent MLA, taking their collective number to 117.

While the BJP argued that they were the single largest party to form a government, the JD -Sand Congress said that 112 is the majority and Congress and JD-S combined is at 117. (NT)
