Five times, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi (94) died on Tuesday evening in Chennai. He was the leader who lost no election in his political career of 80 years. Karunanidhi had stepped into politics only at the age of 14. He was active in politics at that time when Periyar was the leader of the Dravid movement. Annadurai was in the discussion through anti-Hindi agitation and the superhero of Tamil films MG Ramachandran had joined Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

Karunanidhi started with anti-Hindi agitation: Impressed by the speech of Justice Party's Alagiri Swami, Karunanidhi stepped into political life. Then he was 14 years old. They joined the anti-Hindi movement. He started writing the handwritten journal titled 'Manwar Mukh' by hand. He started a career as a screenwriter in Jupiter Pictures at the age of 20. The first film 'Rajkumari' became very popular. In the meantime, Justice Party's Periyar Erode Venkatappa Ramasamy and CN Annadurai caught sight of him. He made Karunanidhi the editor of the party's magazine 'Kudiyarasu'.

He fought to represent DMK for the first time in 1956. After the differences with Periyar, CN Annadurai formed Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in 1949. Karunanidhi came along with Annadurai. He started extracting a newspaper called 'Murasoli' which later became the mouthpiece of the DMK. Annadurai decided to take the party to the election grounds at the Tiruchey Conference in 1956. In his declaration of 1957, the DMK advocated full independence (if he wants) of any state. In the same election, Karunanidhi was elected to the Madras State Assembly for the first time from Kulithalai seat of Tiruchirapalli district on the ticket of DMK.

In 1961, the DMK gave a slogan to the different republic: In view of the forthcoming elections, the DMK announced in its Coimbatore conference in December 1961 that he will now work towards making Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh together to create a separate republic. With this announcement, DMK achieved 50 of the 206 seats in the Assembly elections in 1962. After this election, Karunanidhi was elected deputy speaker of the assembly.

In 1963, the DMK changed its constitution: In 1963, the DMK changed its constitution and on November 3, 1963, he gave the slogan 'Azad Dravidanad'. He announced that the DMK will now fight for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra to make 'Dravid Sangh'. This union will work for the superiority of sovereignty and unity of India and the Indian Constitution with its extended power.

The DMK formed the first non-Congress government in Tamil Nadu : In the 1967 assembly elections, the DMK got a clear majority in the state assembly and the Congress had to get out of state power for the first time. Annadurai became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He made Karunanidhi a PWD minister. In 1969, apart from Madras State, Tamil Nadu became a state. Annadurai became the first Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on January 14, 1969. But after 20 days he died. After 7 days i.e. Karunanidhi became the third Chief Minister of the state on February 10, 1969. He remained in the post till January 4, 1971.

DMK took over the state government twice: In 1971, the DMK came to power in the assembly elections and Karunanidhi became the Chief Minister. In 1972, the DMK got torn apart when MG Ramachandran formed a new party named AIADMK. AIADMK secured the power of Tamil Nadu in the 1977 elections. Ramachandran died in December 1988. After him, his wife Janaki Ramachandran became the Chief Minister of the state. However, after 6 months, Janaki got out of power and Jayalalitha, a close friend of Ramachandran, became the Chief Minister of AIADMK. He became Chief Minister of the state. Since 1977, Congress continued to hold elections from the DMK or AIADMK in the state and from here the people of these parties started reaching the Lok Sabha.

Then during the 1977 elections, Ramachandran died in December 1988. After his wife, Janaki Ramachandran became the Chief Minister of the state. However, after 6 months, Janaki got out of power and Jayalalitha, a close friend of Ramachandran, became the Chief Minister of AIADMK. He became Chief Minister of the state Since 1977, Congress continued to hold elections from the DMK or AIADMK in the state and from here.
