DMK  workers demanded  for the burial of the Karunanidhi near Anna memorial at Marina beach to the state government denied the request, which gave rise to controversy.

Advocate S Duraisamy, withdrew the petition as he believed that government is using his petition to do politics. He said that he want to present himself  before the Chief Justice and tell him that he is withdrawing his case because the state government is using  petition to do politics, and he do not want that to happen.  Advocate only withdrew the petition but also said that Karunanidhi should be buried next to Anna Samadhi.

Duraisamy had filed a PIL against the construction of a memorial saying that if you carry out any construction work in a coastal zone then it harms the environment.  He further added that therefore, when they built Jayalalithaa's memorial he objected to it also. However, Anna Samadhi is not in the coastal zone. It is the banks of the Cooum river and it is already there and has been declared a monument.

After the news of death of Kalaignar, his fans and DMK workers brokedown and requested state government to give space to him near the Anna Samadhi of Anna but government state denied their request.
