Thiruvananthapuram: In the recent development of Franco Mulakkal Rape case, the rape accused Bishop granted conditional bail on Monday. Kerala High Court has laid down the conditions that Bishop Franco Mulakkal should not enter Kerala and should surrender his passport before the court.

Worth mention here the bishop moved the high court after a magistrate’s court in Pala rejected his bail application, in which he asserted that he had been implicated for taking action against the nun. He is at present under judicial remand in a sub-jail in Pala in Kottayam district.

The police had earlier opposed bail following the reasons that the case was still progressing after the arrest of Malakkal on September 21.

In her complaint to the Kottayam Police in June, the nun had accused of Bishop Mulakkal for rapping her at a guest house in Kuravilangad in May 2014 and subsequently, sexually assaulted her on several occasions over a period of two years from May 5, 2014. She asserted she had to approach the police as the church authorities did not act even after frequent complaints.

Police in the remand report submitted in the court stated the medical examination confirmed that the nun was sexually assaulted.
