Lord Shiva is respected as the Supreme Godhead in Hinduism and the third one among the Hindu Trinity namely Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Shiva is considered as the destroyer and the annihilator of the created universe at the end of the cosmic time. Lord Shiva is manifested as the amalgamation of all powers and energies. He is shown as Ardha Narishwara or the Shiva-Shakti sign in one form meaning that Shiva is the potential as well as the kinetic energy of the universe both seen and unseen. Shivratri heralds this male-female principle of Shiva celebrating the Lord as the all-powerful Supreme Principle.
