Where the entire world is enjoying the festival of colours 'Holi' today, the festival of colours, Holi, was already celebrated on Thursday with traditional enthusiasm and gaiety across Jammu and Kashmir People of the Hindu community celebrated the festival by splattering colours on their family and friends. Muslims also visited the Hindu neighbours and greeted them. They also exchanged and distributed sweets to each other. 

The shopkeepers in Maharaja Bazaar, here, – famous for selling festival celebration products – had announced rebate on such products. Many security establishments in Kashmir had erected banners wishing people on the occasion. “The paramilitary and army troopers gathered in their camps and danced to the beats of Holi songs besides smearing colours on each other,” sources said.

Not only this but Many tourists also celebrated the festival. In Jammu, many educational institutions celebrated the festival. The students came in colourful dresses and threw different dry colours on each other. Some of the schools also distributed stationery among needy students, reports from there said. The markets also wore festive look while temples and residential houses were decorated.

Border security forces posted in Jammu celebrated the festival at Jammu headquarters, while some political parties also organized events to celebrate the day. Moreover, Governor NN Vohra has greeted the people on Holi and hoped that the festival of colours would be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the State.

In his message of felicitations, the Governor observed that the celebration of festivals, a valuable part of “our rich cultural heritage, strengthens the bonds of brotherhood and amity.” He also expressed hope that the festival would spread happiness and joy all around and promote harmony.
