Even though she was pursuing to become a cardiac surgeon, but destiny had other plans for Manushi Chillar, who became India's Miss World participant for 2017. The 20-year-old, she is the 54th titleholder, and served the state of Haryana at the Femina Miss India 2017 beauty pageant and raced with 29 contestants from other Indian states. She took over as Miss India World from Priyadarshini Chatterjee at the end event, which was held in Mumbai earlier this year. Now, Manushi is competing with 108 contestants for the Miss World crown at an event that will be held in China on November 18.

Manushi was registered in a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery when she decided to enter the beauty pageant. Still, she is equally passionate about outdoor sports such as paragliding, bungee jumping, snorkelling and scuba diving. No surprise then that her motto in life is, 'When you cease to dream you cease to live.'

For her Beauty with a Purpose project (a registered charity and a non-profit organisation associated with Miss World to raise money for humanitarian projects across the world), Manushi took up the screen to spread awareness about the important issue of menstrual hygiene. Her drive was termed as 'Project Shakti'. For the same, she went about 20 villages and made a difference to the lives of 5,000 women.
