Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari has written a letter to Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan appealing for a cut in the salary of the MPs following the regular adjournments of the house due to protests by the leaders from opposition parties including Congress, Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

He expressed his ‘anguish’ over the ‘unprecedented chaos’ in the assembly saying it is wasting the valuable time of the Parliament.

Further, he expressed his concern over the behaviour of the MPs saying the MPs were running from their responsibilities and proposing to implement the fair policy of ‘No work, no pay.’

“It is equally disturbing to see how public representatives, who are primarily responsible for lawmaking, are running away from their responsibilities,” wrote Tiwari in the letter.

Opposition parties including Congress, TDP among others have been creating chaos in the Lok Sabha repeatedly in the past few days over issues like Andhra Pradesh special category status and killing of 39 Indian nationals in Iraq among others. This has resulted in adjourning of the house and halting proceedings over several important issues.

In the 2018 budget, the MPs were given a 100 percent salary hike which raised the basic salary from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh.
