On Monday, India came teasing close to registering another awesome win against Sri Lanka in the first Test at Kolkata. Indian pacers Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar brought out all they had, to wrap up the Lankan innings in a session-and-a-half. After being set a modest target of 231 runs, the visitors could only manage 75/7, before bad light stopped play on the final day.

 

In what turned out to be a great outing for Team India, skipper Virat Kohli's decision of declaration after scoring a hundred did come under scrutiny. Had India declared four-five overs earlier, Kohli & co. would have registered another Test win, but that was not to be.n the post match conference too, India opener KL Rahul expressed his views regarding the same. He went on to say that they just needed four-five overs more to wrap up the Lankan tail.

 

 

Skipper Virat Kohli, the ace batsman did signal to the dressing room, asking about declaration when batting on 97. But head coach Ravi Shastri advised against it, and asked him to complete his ton. This was Kohli's 18th Test ton, and 11th as India captain. En Route hundred, he broke a few more records. This was his 50th ton across all the formats, and became the fastest batsman along with Hashim Amla to achieve this milestone.
