A helicopter of the Indian Coast Guard crashed and landed in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Saturday. A woman pilot travelling in the helicopter was injured in the emergency landing. The helicopter was on a routine patrol sortie. The incident happened after some technical problem was detected 25 minutes post take-off. The crew proceeded for an emergency landing and landed the chopper near a beach in Murud.

The accident happened in the Nandgaon village in Murud area. The chopper had taken off from Mumbai.

“The crew onboard avoided landing in populated areas and conducted the emergency landing near a beach in Murud,” said Public Relations Officer Deputy Commandant Avinandan Mitra.

“Indian Navy rushed to the accident spot and rescued all the four crew members. They were later taken to naval hospital ‘Asvini’ at Mumbai,” informed a navy official.

“A Chetak helicopter of the Indian Coast Guard on a routine patrol sortie crash landed six nautical miles north of Murud near Alibaug at around 2:48 PM on Saturday,” added the naval official.

Indian Navy launched two Chetak helicopters and a Seaking ‘C’ for the search operation of the missing helicopter. These helicopters located the ICG helicopter and rescued all the people onboard.

Initially, media reported the incident as a crash. However, PRO Deputy Commandant Avinandan Mitra discarded such reports.
