Maharashtra government has complied with the demands of the protesting farmers in Mumbai on Monday. The farmers withdrew protest after the state government assured them.

Around 35000 farmers from Nashik, Maharastra started to march to Mumbai on March 6 to pressurize the government to fulfil their demands. After the matter was brought up in the state assembly, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis invited a group from the protesting farmers to meet him.

The meeting between farmers representatives and a committee led by CM Fadnavis lasted for a long time with the latter coming at an agreement to fulfil the former’s demand partially. Following the meeting, farmers announced the withdrawal of protest.

“We discussed 12 of their 13 demands, and most of their demands will be met. The remaining demands have some technical issues, which will be resolved in the next six months. I think they are satisfied with our decisions,” said Minister Girish Mahajan.

State government claimed that it has agreed to almost all demands and promised to ease conditions for loan waiver eligibility. Ration cards will be issued to the farmers immediately.

Central Railways (CR) has arranged two trains for carrying back the protesters back to their homes on Monday evening.
