Malala Yousufzai condemns Gilgit-Baltistan schools attack

Gilgit-Baltistan (PoK), August 4 (NT): Pakistani activist and one of the Nobel awardees Malala Yousufzai on Friday expressed her sorrow over the attack on 12 schools in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) .The blast took place late on Thursday night.

Taking to twitter she said, "The extremists have shown what frightens them most - a girl with a book. We must rebuild these schools immediately, get the students back into their classrooms and show the world that every girl and boy has the right to learn."

According to Dawn, Diamer Superintendent Police (SP) Roy Ajmal informed 12 schools, including only-girls schools were set on fire adding that in a few cases, books were also thrown out and torched.

According to Dawn quoted local police officer Mohammad Bashir as saying that the attack on schools broke out near Chilas before sunup on Friday. He also said that no casualties were reported as the schools were shut down when the attack took place.

Police further said that no group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Local residents and journalists told that voice of explosions were heard in GPS Ronay and Girls School Takya, however, police stated that they did not receive inputs about blasts.
