West Indies batsmen, Marlon Samuels received a warning and one demerit point after being charged with a Level 1 Breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during the World Cup Qualifiers game played between West Indies and Zimbabwe in Harare, on Monday (March 19). The veteran was found to have violated Article 2.1.8 of the code which pertains to "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match".

Marlon Samuels, who cracked an impressive against Zimbabwe with 80-ball 86 runs in West Indies' successful chase of 290, had caused damage to the "30-yard circle disk with his bat" while walking back to the pavilion after he was dismissed. Michael Gough and Simon Fry, the on-field umpires, alongside third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Paul Wilson levied the penalty on the batsman. Samuels accepted the offence and the sanction levied by match referee Graeme La Brooy and as a result, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Demerit points remain active for a 24-month duration. Four or more demerit points during the rolling period account to suspension. He was also the 'Man of the Match' for his brilliant batting performance in West Indies' chase of 290 to help his side inch closer to a berth in the World Cup 2019.
