Amritsar (Punjab) [India], December 6 (NT): London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who is at present on a visit to India, paid homage to the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh mass destruction in Amritsar on Wednesday and said it, is time for the British Government to make sincere apology for the heartbreak incident.

  Mayor Khan cited in the visitor's book at the Jallianwala Bagh that the British Government must make an apology for the mass destruction that took place at Jallianwala Bagh in 1919.

He touted that it was extremely moving for him to visit Jallianwala Bagh and one can never fail to remember the tragedy that happened here.

Mayor   Khan also visited the martyrs well at the historical site of Jallianwala Bagh.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre happened on 13 April, 1919 when force of the British Indian Army under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer fired machine guns into a mass of without arms protesters, along with Baishakhi pilgrims, who had congregate in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, and Punjab.

Khan along with Mayor of Bengaluru, Sampath Raj, yesterday declared that London and Bengaluru will go ahead of a global partnership of up to 20 other world cities to deal with global air pollution.

Mayor Khan held meetings with business heads and Indian government ministers during his visit to Mumbai, Delhi and Amritsar in India.

He also met Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitlley and talked about how India and London can build on their ancient business and cultural knots. (NT)
