Meet Ashima Chatterjee, the country's first woman, doctorate in science
Today is the 100th birthday of Ashima Chatterjee, the first Indian woman to get a doctorate in science.
Google has remembered Dr. Chatterjee's 100th birthday through his doodle. Chemist Chatterjee is known for his extreme contribution in the field of Organic Chemistry and Phytomedicine, which is a science of plant diseases.
Ashima Chatterjee was born on September 23, 1917 in Bengal. Chatterjee received his M.Sc. degree from Calcutta University in 1938 and his doctorate in 1944. She became the first woman to become a doctor in science all over India. In 1954, she became a reader in the chemistry department at the same university.In 1975, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. He also remained a Rajya Sabha member from 1982 to 1990. She was the first woman to become the General Secretary of Indian Science Congress in 1975.
She did a lot of work on the medicinal plants of the Indian subcontinent.
When the primary education of women in the twentieth century was also very difficult, which was not considered essential even in dreams, Ashima Chatterjee achieved such a grand achievement in that period and opened the way for Indian women to move forward.
