Meet BJP’s 11 candidates for 10 Rajya Sabha seats in UP

Lucknow: In a bid to disturb the opposition parties mathematics in Uttar Pradesh in the March 23 Rajya Sabha Polls, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has come with 11 candidates for 10 seats. In total, 14 candidates have nominated for the biennial polls.

Considering the BJP's strength in the current Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the ruling party can easily guarantee the win of its eight candidates in the polls to the Upper House of Parliament. However, it has fielded 11 candidates in a bid to make sure the additional votes.

On Monday, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was the first to file the nomination papers from the BJP as Times now reported.

 Jaitley submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer in the attendance of state BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey, Deputy Chief Ministers Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Prasad Maurya, and other cabinet members of the state government.

Yesterday Ashok Bajpayi, Anil Jain, Kanta Kardam, Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, Harnath Singh Yadav, Sakaldeep Rajbhar and G V L Narasimha Rao have filed the nominations.

BJP has 18 candidates for Rajya Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, candidates from other political parties who have filed their nomination papers include BSP's Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Mahesh Chandra Sharma of the Jan Sangh, and Jaya Bachchan of the Samajwadi Party.
