Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said the note-ban exercise and Goods and Services Tax (GST) were "poorly planned and rapidly put into practice."

Repeating what he said in the Rajya Sabha during a discussion on demonetization, Dr.  Manmohan Singh said "demonetization was organized burgle and legalized booty."

Interacting with a group of traders in Ahmadabad, Dr.  ManmohanSingh said demonetization was a black day for both financial system and democracy. "Nowhere in the world has any democracy taken such a coercive step," Singh asserted.

Dr. Singh claimed the so-called economic reforms taken by the NDA government have only aided China since exports have rushed forward this year.

Many Industries in Surat, Vapi, Morbi and other parts of Gujarat are poorly smacked by demonetization and GST. Along with demonetization, GST has shaped a deep-rooted feeling of tax terrorism among businessmen in the nation, Dr. Singh said.

The Congress has already proclaimed that it will observe November 8, the day demonetization was declared last year, as 'Black Day'.

The former PM further criticized by saying that instead of given that relief to the poor and marginalized farmers and traders who had gone through from note ban, the government imposed upon them the “poorly designed” GST.
