Washington D.C. [USA], Jan 24: The most famous and the greatest science-fiction and the fantasy author died at the age of 88. Her family declared this sad news via tweet that the author died peacefully at her Portland, Oregon home.

Le Guin's work forded multiple genres and categories but she was best known for her work in the science fiction and fantasy area. She is particularly well-known for her series of young adult fantasy books that take place in the world of Earthsea, as well as her science-fiction novel 'The Left Hand of Darkness' (Ace Books, 1969), about the meeting of interplanetary cultures. The book won both the Hugo and the Nebula awards (which are considered the premier awards in that genre), reports CNN.

Her website also states that she had written 20 novels, six collections of poetry and many short stories. Ursula Kroeber Le Guin was an American novelist. Working mainly in the genres of fantasy and science fiction, she also authored children's books, short stories, poetry, and essays. Her writing was first published in the 1960s and often depicted futuristic or imaginary alternative worlds in politics, the natural environment, gender, religion, sexuality, and ethnography. In 2016, The New York Times described her as "America's greatest living science fiction writer", although she said that she would prefer to be known as an "American novelist".
