Pakistan cricket team all-rounder Shoaib Malik did not take the field after suffering from symptoms of delayed concussion during his team’s 4th ODI against New Zealand in Hamilton on Tuesday. Pakistan all rounder batsmen Shoaib Malik was struck on the back of his head while taking a run and the Pakistan Cricket Board said the cricketer showed symptoms of concussion in the dressing room afterwards.

“Shoaib was assessed by the match doctor” Pakistan team physiotherapist VB Singh said during the mid-innings break in Hamilton. He did not have any symptoms of a concussion and was able to carry on playing. After getting out, he was reassessed and was showing delayed concussion signs. He is doing well and is resting. As advised by the match doctor and Pakistan team physiotherapist, he will not be taking any further part in the match,” he added.

Shoaib Malik came out to bat without a helmet after the dismissal of Haris Sohail as spinners were operating from both ends. In the 32nd over, he set off for a quick single and was struck by Colin Munro’s throw while trying to make his ground. The throw hit him on the back of the head and still had enough force to go to the boundary. Malik went down immediately, and was treated by the team doctor on the field. He resumed batting after some time and was dismissed three balls later.
