Nation bids teary farewell to the Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh

The nation today bid adieu to the 98-year-old  Marshal of the Indian air force Arjan Singh with full state honours including a flypast by fighter jets in New Delhi.

At the Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment, his body was consigned to flames. At that time there were several senior political leaders and top brass of the Indian military presence there.

A 17-gun salute was given to Singh while IAF Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighter jets carried out a flypast to him who lost his life on Saturday due to cardiac arrest.The national flag flew at half-mast at all government buildings in the national capital in the honour of the iconic hero of the 1965 India-Pakistan war.

On a gun carriage, Singh's body, wrapped in the Indian tricolour, was taken to the Brar Square crematorium from his residence 7 Kautilya Marg in central New Delhi.

The Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was among those who were present at the crematorium. Singh had led a young Indian Air Force during the 1965 India-Pakistan war. Yesterday, the President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Singh's residence and paid him tribute.
