National Law Day: President Kovind to inaugurate 2-day conference

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday will launch a two-day conference on the event of National Law Day.

The conference will see thoughtfulness on the collegium regime and balance the partition of power between judiciary system and Parliament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will send the valedictory address at the end of the 2-day talks which is being conducted by the Law Commission and the Niti Aayog on the occasion of the National Law Day, an official report stated.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will also address the conference including with Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, the report further informed.

There will be held almost four sessions on significant issues regarding the nation's judicial structure. These comprise 'judicial review and parliamentary democracy - balancing the separation of power' and 'appointments to the superior judiciary - constraints of collegium system and reforms ahead'.

There will also be meeting on topics like 'structural reforms for overcoming delays in justice delivery' and 'scope of judicial powers; judicial activism'.

The National Law Day is marked on November 26, the day on which the Constitution of India was agreed to by the Constituent Assembly in 1949.
