Nidahas Trophy 2018: India storm into the final

Rohit Sharma’s magnificent innings of 89 runs and young spinner Washington Sundar’s magical spell of 3 wickets for 22 runs helped India hold off a late charge by Bangladesh wicket keeper batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim (72*) to clinch a 17-run win over Bangladesh and enter the final of the Nidahas Trophy tri-series at the R Premadasa stadium on Wednesday.

Former Bangladesh skipper Rahim had threatened to repeat his heroics performance against Sri Lanka where his 72 runs off 35 ball had helped Bangladesh chase down mammoth total of 215, the fourth-highest successful chase in T20 Internationals. Rahim and Sabbir Rahman stitched a great stand to revive Bangladesh after Washington Sundar put in another magnificent display to wreck the top order. India made 176 for three and restricted Bangladesh to 159/6.

It was forgettable day for Mohammad Siraj, he gave away 50 odd runs from four overs, conceding the most runs after three T20Is (131 runs) in the series. He bowled the final over in which he gave away 10 runs, even as Mushfiqur fought right until the end remaining unbeaten on 72 off 55 balls which was the first-ever fifty by a Bangladesh batsman against India in T20Is. Bangladesh need a win against Sri Lanka to reach into the final.

Brief scores: India 176/3 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 89, Shikhar Dhawan 35, Suresh Raina 47; Rubel Hossain 2-27) beat Bangladesh 159/6 in 20 overs (Mushfiqur Rahim 72*, Sabbir Rahman 27; Washington Sundar 3-22) by 17 runs
