India is celebrating its 72nd Independence Day. The national flag is being hoisted across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the country from Red Fort. People expressed their reverence for the martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the country's independence. August 15 is really a historic day. Not just the freedom of India but the 15th August has witnessed many major events of the country. There are some good memories and some bad ones too.

1. On August 15, 1772, East India Company took the decision to make civil and criminal court in different districts of the country.

2. For the first time in India on August 15, 1854, East India Company had operated the first train from Kolkata (then Calcutta) to Hooghly, although officially the operation of Indian Railways started in 1855.

3. On August 15, 1907, Indian Bank was established. It was established as part of the indigenous movement.

4. On August 15, 1947, India got independence and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru took oath as the first Prime Minister of Independent India.

5. On August 15, 1950, an earthquake of 8.7 on the Indian time was 19.22. This is considered the most intense earthquake in the earthquake in India. Thousands of people died in this earthquake.

6. The PIN number that people enter in their address today was implemented on August 15, 1972.

7. On August 15, 1982, the national program of colour broadcasting and TVs was inaugurated in Delhi all over the country. The first colour broadcast was the speech of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. From this day, Doordarshan started its national broadcast. Under this, television stations across the country had to show the program created in Delhi centre for a fixed period in the evening. In the meantime bulletins of national news were also shown.

8. On 15th August 1990, India successfully launched an air-to-air missile.
