Indian workers working overseas can now be protected from the scope of Social Security Schemes of that respective country. Instead, they will be able to choose plans for the Domestic Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) VP Joy gave this information on Friday.

Addressing the National Conference on "Fraud, Risk Management - New Initiatives", VPJoy said that an online facility has been started for this. Let the EPFO be the world's largest social security provider. It covers more than 9.26 lakh companies and has more than 45 million members.

This scheme protects Indian workers from the social security schemes of their country of work. Along with this, it also protects employment providers from taking double contribution in social security schemes. EPFO has contracted with 18 countries for this.

He said that we have made the entire process work-friendly. The workers who are going to work abroad can get the certificate of coverage. They can apply online for certification or can get it online only.

"We have made the whole process employee friendly. Employees going abroad to work can get a certificate of coverage (CoC). They can apply for the CoC online and can get it too. The scheme is of great help for Indian workers going overseas for a limited period of time. The biggest benefit they get from opting for the CoC is that their money is not blocked for a long time in the host country," he said, explaining the benefits of the scheme.
