In a joint procedure, Delhi police and the Gujarat anti-terrorism squad on Wednesday night arrested a suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist for allegedly being involved in a terror attack on the Red Fort in 2000.The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad reported to the Delhi Police that the terrorist, has identified as Bilal Ahmed Kawa, was nabbed from Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Kawa, declared a proclaimed offender in the case, was travelling from Srinagar to Delhi.

He has been taken into detention and is being questioned. Kawa was on the run since 2000 and was hiding in Kashmir, the police said.Money to the tune of Rs 29.50 lakh was transferred through hawala in various bank accounts, including those of Kawa, to fund the attack, according to the police.Three people, including two Army jawans, were killed in the Red Fort attack on December 22, 2000.Earlier, terrorist Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq, who was convicted in the case, had been awarded death sentence.The Special Cell of Delhi Police and Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), in a joint operation, apprehended the accused, identified as Bilal Ahmad Kawa, at the Delhi airport Wednesday night.
