Organ day it is important for you to know that donating an organ is a kindful service one can do for others. It is assumed that each year, about five lakh people in India die awaiting organ transplants due to non-availability of body organs.However, unfortunately, the situation of organ donation and transplantation in India remained to be under the poor state of matters. Data from the Ministry of Health Affairs unveils that there is only 23 percent of organs donated are transplanted to the needy patients. 

Patients of all ages, like newborn babies, require a donation for various reasons such as illness and accident. Organ donation saves lives – one organ donor can save up to eight lives, in fact, the same donor can also save or improve the lives of up to 50 people by donating tissues and eyes. And you have plenty of homegrown body parts that can be donated to people in need, perhaps, Here’s a list of organs and tissues which can be donated and how they can be used:

Heart - A heart transplant can be used to treat those suffering from heart failure, as well as babies born with heart injuries.
Kidneys – A kidney transplant is a good choice to treat chronic end-stage renal disease (severe kidney failure). 
Lungs – Lung transplants are recommended for patients with severe lung disease, including cystic fibrosis or other conditions such as bronchiectasis.
Liver - A liver transplant is done to treat different diseases which cause liver failures, such as cirrhosis or liver cancer.
Pancreas - Pancreatic transplants are usually carried out on patients with insulin-dependent type I diabetes.
Intestines - A small bowel (intestinal) transplant is a treatment for both adults and children with intestinal failure.
Also, the following tissues can be donated for transplantation –
Skin - Skin transplants, also identified as skin grafts, are often used to treat severe burns, extensive wounding or trauma, and skin loss due to infection.
Cornea - A corneal transplant or graft is used to improve sight, relieve pain, and treat severe eye diseases and infections.
Heart valves - Heart valve transplants are done to repair or replace diseased heart valves caused by infections, birth defects, and ageing.
Bone marrow - A bone marrow transplant is used to replace bone marrow that has been damaged or destroyed by disease, infection, or chemotherapy.
Tendons - Tendon transplants are recommended when a certain muscle function is lost because of a nerve injury or damage to tendons.
