New Delhi [India], June 20 (NT): Following the ending of PDP-BJP alliance, President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday gave his consent to impose Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, with an immediate effect.

Earlier a day Governor Narinder Nath Vohra submitted his report to the President Kovind for the imposition of Governor's Rule under Section 92 of the Constitution.

This move came after Mehbooba Mufti resigned as Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s pull out from its coalition with the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the hilly state.

She added that the basic motive of the alliance was "reconciliation, dialogue with the people of Kashmir, promoting confidence-building measures and good relationships with Pakistan."

The BJP decided to exit from coalition when chief its Amit Shah held a meeting with the party's Jammu and Kashmir cabinet ministers.

BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav during his addressing in a press conference in the national capital said that the party was left with no other alternative, but to end its coalition with the PDP.He cited that the growing acts of "terrorism, violence and radicalization" in the state over the past few years.

On a related note The BJP and PDP formed a coalition government in 2015 after the state elections threw up a hung assembly. However, both of sides were ideologically shared differences of opinion in a variety of issues.

In this alliance the BJP had 25 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on the other hand  the PDP had 28.In the last 10 years this will be the fourth time when the Governor's rule is imposed in Jammu and Kashmir. (NT)
