NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) on Tuesday. United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres  graced the event. The programmes are linked to sanitation and renewable energy, subjects closely associated with Bapu’s emphasis on cleanliness and a clean environment, on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary.

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterre visited an exhibition during Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

In his adresss, PM Modi said, "So many countries coming together for a cleanliness campaign is an unheard of event. I pay tribute to Bapu on everyone's behalf:PM Modi at the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention. "

PM Modi, in a warm verse to the ‘Father of  nation’, reminisced instances and stories from the time of India’s freedom fight and explained how Bapu, as Gandhiji was fondly called by the nation, campaigned for egalitarianism and self-respect.

“He remains a shining beacon of hope for millions of people across the world who seek a life of equality, dignity, inclusion and empowerment. The impact he left on the human society has few parallels,” Modi wrote in his blog.

Today PM Modi also inaugrated the first assambal of International solar alllience aiming to have green energy to reduce pollution.
