MANILA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attended the opening ceremony of the 31st ASEAN Summit here. On Sunday PM Modi met with the world leaders, including US president Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, at a gala dinner reception which was hosted by Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte ahead of this year's India-Asian and East Asia Summits.

Further, on  the summits, Modi will go to hold a mutual meeting with Duterte, and the Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump. PM Modi is forward looking to speak at the Asian business and investment summit and is present at an Indian community reception to be hosted by the ambassador of India to the Philippines.

This year is going to mark the India-Asean dialogue partnership and the golden jubilee of the formation of the Asian regional bloc.The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

With China's controversial military buildup in the South China Sea likely to be a major issue at the summit, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang today clearly reiterated Beijing's long-held position that it wants to bilaterally resolve its disputes on the issue with its neighbours.
