PM Modi launches "Amma two-wheeler scheme" in Chennai

Prime minister Narendra Modi launched the “Amma two-wheeler scheme” in Chennai on Saturday.

Prime Minister, speaking on the occasion said:  

“I am glad to be able to launch one of her dream projects– the Amma Two Wheeler Scheme. I am told that on Amma's 70th birthday, 70 lakh plants will be planted across Tamil Nadu. These initiatives will go a long way in the empowerment of women & protection of nature.”

He also reiterated the need to empower women to empower the entire household.

“When we empower women in a family, we empower the entire household. When we help with a woman's education, we ensure that the family is educated. When we facilitate her good health, we help keep the family healthy. When we secure her future, we secure future of the entire home,” said PM Modi.

Modi announced policies for working women which includes an extension of maternity leave from 12 to 26 weeks and registry of the house in woman’s name under the PM Awaas Yojana.

Chief Minister E. Palanisamy also spoke at the function to launch late Jayalalithaa’s pet project “Amma two-wheeler scheme” crediting Jayalalithaa’s for making efforts to develop Tamil Nadu.

“It was honourable Amma who took Tamil Nadu on the path of development, be it education or help to the poor, all schemes were focused to uplift people. Water harvesting was a great initiative which is widely appreciated,” Palanisamy said.

He also brought up the Cauvery dispute and urged PM Modi to set up Cauvery Management Board.

“On this auspicious occasion I request you (Modi) to take appropriate action for the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board and for implementing Cauvery regulation committee as per the SC guidance,” he said, addressing PM Modi.
