New Delhi [India], Feb 21 (NT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini (The Aga Khan IV) here on Wednesday.

Global Shia holy chief, the Aga Khan landed here on Tuesday on a 10-day official visit at the invitation of the Government of India.

The official twitor handle of PMO said, “PM @narendramodi met His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan in Delhi today”.

The visit will coincide with the celebration of his diamond jubilee, marked across the world.

Highness the Aga Khan was welcomed by Chief of Protocol Sanjay Verma, and Joint Secretary Deepak Mittal at airport.

"This visit is part of a series of visits that coincide with the commemoration of the Aga Khan's Diamond Jubilee, marking the 60th anniversary of his leadership as Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslim Community," the AKDN issued a statement.

He will also take a trip to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Mumbai, where he will meet with the Governor and Chief Minister of Gujarat, the Governor, Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana and the Governor and Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

"In 2015 the Aga Khan was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, one of the country's highest civilian decorations, for his contributions to social development in India," the official release said.
