On Sunday, it is ‘Earth Day’ which is celebrated every year on April 22. The global day of environmental action to make our blue and green planet better place for living being, definitely appears to have made its impact at least in terms of awareness and public involvement. On this special event known as Earth Day, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi has complimented all those individuals and organizations who are working towards promoting harmony with nature. The Sustainable development holds the perfect key to preserve and conserve natural resources for the future generations while also meeting the needs for development and growth.  

Highlighting the urgent need to fight climate change, PM Modi tweeted: On Earth Day, let us reaffirm our commitment towards creating a better planet for our future generations. Let us work together to mitigate the menace of climate change. This would be a great tribute to our beloved Mother Earth.

World Health Organization (WHO) has also highlighted the impact of climate change on health. According to a tweet by WHO, "Climate change is expected to cause 250,000 additional deaths per year between 2030-2050."

Histroy of Earth Day

On this day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970 and has ever since been an annual event. US Senator Gaylord Nelson is credited with organizing the event 48 years ago. Nearly, million of American came out in support of the cause raised by Nelson, demonstrations were carried out in different cities in the US. Soon, the issue of clean environment and earth conservation became national agenda in the United States.
