Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Feb. 17 (NT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fourth container terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai tomorrow.

The JNPT's Fourth Container Terminal (FCT)'s Phase I is expected to advance container trade and logistics in a big way. The construction 4th container terminal at JNPT has been concluded in a record time at a cost of Rs. 4,719 crore.

The FCT is developed on design, build, and fund, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis for a indulgence period of 30 years with an estimated investment of Rs. 7,915 crore for both the phases which will be able to harbor mother vessels, to tackle the biggest containers ships from a key length of one km. It can handle three container ships concurrently with an adequate yard space, and cranes and can reach 22 rows wide or more.

The FCT will be associated to the dedicated road admittance and a rail freight corridor. It will receive around 350 containers per rake besides provision for storing 1,600 refrigerated (reefer) containers for perishables, agriculture and horticulture produce.

Accordingly, the official said the beginning of operations at FCT will provide massive opportunities for the EXIM community for trade embellishments.
