PM Modi to inaugurate first Assembly of the International Solar Alliance

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the first Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) on Tuesday. United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres will also the grace the event. The programmes are linked to sanitation and renewable energy, subjects closely associated with Bapu’s emphasis on cleanliness and a clean environment, on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary.

On Gandhi Jayanti, PM Modi  will attend the closing session of the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention.

Worth mention here ISA, a joint initiative of India and France launched in 2015 to stir up 121 potential member countries to boost their solar footprint. This international organization is aimed to mobilise $1 trillion to generate 1,000 gw of solar energy by 2030. Countries that have ratified the ISA treaty framework will be present at the Assembly as ‘members’ while those that have signed but are yet to approve the framework will be there as ‘observers’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron will jointly be given Champions of The Earth Award on October 3 at function which will be held at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra for their unique initiative towards the protecting Environment.

On a relatednote This is the highest environmental honour conferred by United Nations. The award recognizes the Prime Minister's audacious environmental leadership on the international stage for his revolutionary work and championing the solar alliance and for promoting new areas of...cooperation in environment action including Prime Minister's unique pledge to get rid of all single use plastics by 2020.
