Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reviewed the progress of the development of 26 islands for the promotion of the sea economy. In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi, the Commission gave the presentation on matters related to overall development including important infrastructure projects, digital connectivity, green energy, waste management, promotion of fisheries, tourism-based projects.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, while reviewing the works in Andaman Nicobar, Modi emphasized the need for development in the field of tourism. He emphasized self-reliance in the field of energy in the islands which are based on solar energy.
The Prime Minister was apprised of the decision of the Home Ministry about the need for a restricted area permit in connection with the visit of foreigners to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. These islands were discussed in connection with South East Asia.
During the review, review of development works in Lakshadweep was also discussed. Modi was also apprised of the steps taken on promoting tuna fish. There was also discussion about the development of important infrastructure in Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep. In this meeting, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Andaman Nicobar and Deputy Governor of Lakshadweep, Chief Executive Officer of the Policy Commission and senior officials were present.
