Islamabad [Pakistan], July 30 (NT): Amidst allegations of meddling in the just concluded general elections of Pakistan, an Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) talking head had stated that the polls were conducted fairly.

In an interview on a Geo News talk show, Altaf Ahmed asserted that the charges that have been slapped by the various political parties do not have evidence.

Giving a reference of the report of European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM), which sent a delegation of observers for the elections, Ahmed stated that an EU EOM report told that the elections were "transparent and fair."

When asked about allegations from political parties that their polling agents were threw out from polling booths during the counting of votes, the ECP representative said that there were instructions that had been passed on to them allowing only one agent, while some parties had sent as many as seven.

"If you check the record, only irrelevant people were expelled from the polling stations," Ahmed asserted.

He also stated that the leaders who had in violation of ECP Code of Conduct on the Election Day had been issued notices and that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf superemo Imran Khan has been summoned to give an explanation for his infringement during casting his vote.

He also confirmed that the election governance body of Pakistan had launched an inquiry into allegations that some polling agents were handed outcomes on a piece of paper, in place of the Form-45 issued by the polling commission. (NT)
