Pakistan: Lieutenant General Asim Munir will be the new Director General of the ISI

Islamabad: Pakistan's army told the media on Wednesday that Lieutenant General Asim Munir has been appointed the new Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Earlier, as the former DG ISI, Lt Gen Nawant Mukhtar got the report of retiring on October 1, different sections of the media had estimated that Munir would be the next Director General and their estimate was correct.

Earlier, in September, Pakistan Army promoted Munir and five other major generals to the rank of lieutenant general. Lt Gen Munir's previous appointment was in the form of DG Military Intelligence, where he received the 'Hilal-e-Imtiaz' award in March 2018. He also served as commander of the Northern Command Command Force.

In addition to announcing Munir's new post as DG ISI, Inter-Services Public Relations also announced that Lieutenant General Azhar Saleh will take over as Chief of Logistics Staff at Abbasi General Headquarters, Abdul Aziz was taken to GHQ Military Secretary Lieutenant General Mohammed Adnan has been posted as the Vice Chairman of the General Staff. On the other hand Lt Gen Wasim Ashraf IG will take charge of the supervision of weapons.
