The United States on Wednesday lashed on to Pakistan and accused it providing “safe havens” to terrorists.

The state department’s 2016 Country Reports on Terrorism named Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad(JeM), the two groups behind most terror attacks in India, and the Haqqani network, which has attacked US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan, as organizations that operate from Pakistan havens.

"Pakistan did not take substantial action against the Afghan Taliban or Haqqani, or substantially limit their ability to threaten US interests in Afghanistan, although Pakistan supported efforts to bring both groups into an Afghan-led peace process," the State Department said.

The report also said that the “Indian leadership expressed resolve to redouble efforts, in cooperation with the United States and other like-minded countries, to bring to justice the perpetrators of terrorism.” It said Pakistan remained “an important counterterrorism partner” last year, but it did not take sufficient action against groups that target India and Afghanistan.

An overview to the report on South and Central Asia said that Afghanistan “continued to experience aggressive and coordinated attacks by the Afghan Taliban, including the affiliated Haqqani Network and other insurgent and terrorist groups”. “A number of these attacks were planned and launched from safe havens in Pakistan,” the US report claimed.
