Pregnant woman died after 22-day treatment, hospital charged bill of ₹18 lakh

Faridabad (Haryana): Another happening of medical dumps has come to light, this time from Faridabad in Haryana.The Asian Hospital here has been suspected of extra charging from the family of a pregnant woman who died while her  22-day long treatment.

As per news agency ANI, the pregnant woman was suffering from fever when she died at the Faridabad hospital. She was 32-weeks pregnant and her child also could not be saved.Relatives of the woman have claimed that the hospital management handed the family a bill of Rs 18 lakh for the 22-day-long treatment.

“They said she has typhoid and later said she has a perforated intestine. They asked us to submit Rs 3 lakh for operation and said the surgery will be done once the entire amount is submitted. We have submitted Rs 10-12 lakh so far. But they asked for Rs 18 lakh,” ANI quoted the woman's uncle as saying.

Dr Ramesh Chandna, chairperson, Quality and Safety, Asian Hospital, said, “She was 32-weeks pregnant and had fever since the last 8-10 days. We suspected typhoid and began treatment in ICU. Her child couldn't survive. We found she had a perforated intestine. A surgery was done but we couldn't save her.”
