On Sunday, Ram Nath Kovind, the Honourable President of Prime Minister reached Chennai to pay a visit to the former chief minister Tamil Nadu and also the chief of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), M Karunanidhi.

As soon as he arrived, he left for the Kauvery Hospital, where the Karunanidhi has been hospitalized and is being treated.

On July, 31, Aravindaran Selvaraj, the Executive Director of the Kauvery Hospital has released an official statement informing that the former Chief Minister requires an extended period of hospitalization since it would take him some time to recover from his ill health. One reason being suggested for his late recovery is his old age.

His overall health has declined a lot and he has suffered liver disorder and also a decline in certain hematological parameters.

Previously, Karunanidhi was visited by Rajnikanth, who informed about his health and asserted, "I came to inquire about the country's most senior leader. He was sleeping. I inquired about his health from his family members. I pray to the almighty for his speedy recovery.”

M Karunanidhi was also visited by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of the country, on July 27.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi too met the DMK chief at the Chennai hospital.
Rahul Gandhi, the president of Congress, visited him and said, "I wanted to come and see M Karunanidhi Ji. He is a tough person, I met him and he is stable. Sonia Ji has sent her best wishes and regards to the family.”
