In a major setback to India ahead of the crucial four-match Test series against Australia, young opening batsman and gem of Men in blue Prithvi Shaw was on Friday carried off the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) after suffering a suspected ankle injury. He was injured badly during the lone warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI.

Worth mention here the 19-year-old twisted his ankle while he tried to take a catch off Australian opener Max Bryant on the deep midwicket boundary in the ongoing third day of the tour match.

Since Prithvi was trying to flick the ball back into play so he landed gawkily with his left ankle bending 90-degrees inwards., as cricket.com.au reported.

On this critical situation Medical staff from both sides immediately rushed to attend Shaw, who obviously was in a lot of pain. He was then carried off the field by India physiotherapist Patrick Farhart and a support staff member into the dressing room prior to the match resumed.

Talking about Shaw's injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the young talented batsman was taken to local hospital for scans.

"The medical team is assessing Prithvi Shaw at the moment. He hurt his left ankle while attempting to take a catch at the boundary ropes. Shaw is being taken to the hospital for scans #TeamIndia," the BCCI tweeted.
