According to a survey done by the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists Society of India (FOGSI) in 2014, the reports suggested that the age at which girls attain sexual maturity in urban India has dropped.
In the recent scenario, about 80 per cent of the girls living in cities attain puberty at the age of 11, which is a great drop compared to the past reports. Similarly, many ladies have been receiving 'Menarche', quite early in life.
According to the survey, every one out of three girls, in the country have been hit by early puberty. This for sure is an issue and has become a serious matter of concern for parents and doctors as well.
Science explains Puberty as an age when our body starts releasing Sexual hormones which further help in the development of our sex organs. The onset of puberty is marked by various physical and psychological changes.

According to Dr.Anjila Aneja, from New Delhi,  "Physical and hormonal changes in the physiology and biology of young adolescents, especially in girls, influence psychological and behavioural aspects. There remains a constant conflict of striving for independence while at the same time demanding special attention and acceptance from parents".

Puberty brings with it a sense of consciousness about the body, looks and appearance in children. A major issue of low self-esteem has been observed in children at puberty. Learning to be comfortable with your body is a slow and gradual process.

The changed lifestyle, including increased consumption of junk food, has led to a major reduction in the puberty age for girls.
