Ustad Pyarelal Wadali, younger brother of Ustad Puran Chand Wadali passed away in Amritsar due to cardiac arrest on Friday morning. He was 75-year-old.

He took his last breath at Fortis Escorts Hospital in Amritsar where he was admitted on Thursday.

Wadali Brothers, who belong from a village near Amritsar, are well-known for their Punjabi Sufi music. The duo had begun performing at Harballah temple in Jalandhar. They are adept in various styles of singing as well as Kaufman, ghazal, and bhajan.

The Wadali Brothers, renowned for their Bollywood songs such as Aye Rangrez Mere (Tanu Weds Manu; 2011) and Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi (Mausam; 2011), have carried on the heritage of famous saint poets such as Bulle Shah, Kabir, Amir Khusro and Surdas for years.

Born into the fifth generation of musicians given to singing the messages of Sufi saints, the Wadali brothers dabbled in the most unexpected of professions before they became Sufi singers. While Puranchand Wadali, the elder brother, was a regular in an akhara (wrestling ring) for 25 years, Pyarelal contributed to the meager family income by playing the role of Krishna in the village Raas Leela.
