New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) would issue new Rs 100 notes, with a base colour of violet and smaller than the previous version in August or September. According to the new policy on theme-based currency notes, the new note is equipped with many micro-security features such as –

1. The new Rs 100 note will have the impression of Gujarat’s Rani- ki-Vav (Queen’s stepwell),

2. The new Rs 100 note will be slightly bigger than the Rs 10 note.

3. It weighs less than the old note.

4. The Dewas-based Bank Note Press has already started printing the new Rs 100 notes, which are expected to come into circulation by September this year.

5. It may be noted that the old Rs 100 notes will not be taken away from circulation, the report stated.

Many experts says that banks need to make changes in automated teller machines (ATMs) to regulate the new notes as was the case with new notes of other denominations. Last year, the Top bank of India launched the country’s first 200-rupee banknotes. It has a base colour of bright yellow. The Rs 200 note has the design of Sanchi Stupa on the reverse.

Worth mentioning here is that in a significant move to restrain black money, fake notes and terror financing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led- center announced the scrap of old notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 in November 2016.
