RS Deputy Chairman Polls: NCP's Vandana Chavan set to be as Opposition Candidate

New Delhi: The opposition parties may propose Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Vandana Chavan as a joint candidate for the election of the post of Rajya Sabha deputy chairman. The election will be slated for Thursday. On a related note Chavan is a second-time Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra. She is also a member of the state legislative council.

Floor leaders of the opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha held the meeting on Tuesday afternoon in Parliament after National Democratic Alliance decided to field JD (U) MP and Nitish Kumar supporter Harivansh.

Earlier, there was news that two NDA associates are considering to boycott of casting votes from voting during the election of the post of Rajya Sabha deputy chairman.

 Worth mention here the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Shiv Sena are sadden with reports of NDA deciding to propose JDU MP and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar aide Harivansh for the contest.

Seeking to gather support for the NDA candidate Harivansh for the polls of the deputy chairman Rajya Sabha, Bihar CM and JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar dialed and requested Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to support his party candidate.

Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao have told his Bihar counterpart that he would talk about with party colleagues and take a final decision on this soon.
