Rahul Gandhi becomes uncontested President of Congress

It is now officially declared that Rahul Gandhi is set to take over the chair as Congress president on December.

Rahul has been elected uncontested. The Congress is expected to make the final declaration at 3 pm. He, however, is expected to take charge as President only after the Gujarat Polls wind up, sources hinted.

The 47-year-old Gandhi’s scion will be the sixth Nehru-Gandhi scion to controls the party. His mother Sonia Gandhi and present party president Sonia Gandhi had signed the first nomination paper for the elevation as party president of her son.

The entire 90 sets of nominations were said to have been filed supporting Rahul Gandhi before the deadline ended at 3 pm on December 04. Had there been any challenge, today (December 11) would have been the last date for pulling out. Since there was no other recommendation, Rahul declared elected uncontested President today.

The filing of nomination was also put fuel on the political controversy by comments of senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar who cited the Mughal dynasty in the Congress presidential election that Prime Minister PM Narendra Modi cornered promptly to tag it "Aurangzeb Raj".

The Prime Minister had also alleged that the Congress leaders admit that it is not a political party but a "kunba" (family).
