New Delhi [India], Jan 6 (NT): As Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released Gross Domestic Product (GDP) numbers throughout 2017-18; Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took his Twitter handle to make a droll about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Featuring the growth of Indian economy as saying Jaitley's "genuis" and Modi's "Gross Divisive Politics", Gandhi cracked a sneer over the Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government for a abridged GDP in this quarter.

"FM Jaitley's genius combines with Mr Modi's Gross Divisive Politics (GDP) to give India:

New Investments: 13 year

The increase in GDP during 2017-18 is estimated at 6.5 percent, in cmparision of the growth rate in 2016-17 which was of 7.1 percent, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation had released data on Friday.

As per data which is provided bythe Central Statistics Office (CSO), Real GDP at constant (2011-12) prices in the year 2017-18 is expected to attain a level of Rs 129.85 lakh crore, as in opposition to the Provisional Estimate of GDP for the year 2016-17 of Rs 121.90 lakh crore, was out on May 31, 2017.

The segments which marked a growth rate of over 7.0 percent contain public administration, defense and other services, trade, hotels, transport, communication and services related to broadcasting, electricity, gas, water supply and other utility services and financial, real estate and professional services.

As per the information handed over by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation (DAC), the production of food grains throughout the Kharif season of agriculture year 2017-18 was recorded 134.67 million tonnes as compared to 138.52 million tons for the duration of the same period in 2016-17.

Additionally, Department of Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg on Friday had given statement that the estimated GDP growth of 6.5 percent for 2017-18 is deep-rooted and said 'strong turnaround of the economy'.

"GDP growth of 6.5 percent for 2017-18 implies growth of 7 percent for the second half. This confirms strong turnaround of the economy. Investment growth of almost twice that of last year's indicates investment is reviving," Subhash Chandra Garg shared from his Twitter wall.

Besides this, chief statistician TCA Anant on Friday had forecasted that there would be a progress in numbers on a quarterly basis, even though the year-on-year estimates recommended a dip in GDP growth.

"The reason for the lower GDP estimates is mainly the poor performance of agriculture and manufacturing sectors. The first two quarters showed numbers of 5.7 and 6.3 percent respectively. Looking at this, we are expecting the GDP growth in the next two quarters at 7 percent each," he said on Friday as quoted by ANI.

Gandhi’s scion made his remark when the Budget Session of the Parliament has been declared by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar on Friday which informs that the first Budget Session is planned from January 29 to February 9, while the second session will be scheduled from March 5 to April 6.

This will be the final- full-blown budget for NDA government which will be presented on February 1. (NT)
